This multi-media sculpture features a photo I took of graffiti reading “Fuck الظلم [oppression]” in Cairo, Egypt shortly after the January 25th Revolution. Equal parts frustration and euphoric hope, the piece captures the spirit on the ground at the time – one that applies universally, and that I hope to see realized in my lifetime.
The year 2011 and those that have followed are and were as tumultuous and bittersweet as the revolutions themselves, full of euphoric hope, heartbreak, and a passionate (if admittedly, somewhat delusional) belief that one day, change will come – and that freedom will one day come to the oppressed all over this world.
